What do you do, now? I am an intercultural coach in New York

March 27, 2024

Last week, I went to a block party for St Patrick’s Day. I was surrounded by real New Yorkers and, like always, I was not feeling 100% comfortable.

Not only because I was the only French but also because I am not American and I will never be.

There are still parts of the American culture that I don’t get, despite living here for 7 years and being an intercultural coach.

And it’s okay!

I’ll pause there to explain more of what exactly I do.

Because the question « What do you do, now? » is the one I get the most each time I talk to a friend or family member.

Since I moved to NYC and transitioned from digital advertising to professional coaching, even my friends have no idea of what I do.

What was the plan when I moved?

To find a full-time job in digital advertising and continue my career.

What happened?

I became an entrepreneur and started my professional coaching company.

Since then, I’ve been coaching and consulting for various companies and many individuals.

The freedom and excitement that come with entrepreneurship is very unique and I love it.

What do I do?

I am an intercultural and global leadership coach.

🧐 What does it mean?

I help international employees moving to the USA.

My clients are from Brazil, Columbia, Germany, France, Canada, India, Hong Kong, Argentina, etc.

Their common points?

✅ They move to the USA for their jobs or their partners’ jobs.

✅ They are adapting to a new culture.

✅ They are experiencing a culture shock.

✅ They feel lost, not grounded, homesick.

How do I help them?

📌 I help them become aware of the differences and conflicts in values and customs between their home culture and the American culture.

📌 I increase their understanding of the key cultural values, attitudes, and business practices in the USA, and their impact on professional and social relationships.

📌 More than that, it improves their communication and their relationships.

📌 I ensure a better adjustment and increase long-term success.

It benefits them and their company because they get the keys to understanding their new environment.

Why do I do it?

✨ I love meeting new people, learning about their stories, and helping them get the most out of their experiences.

 ✨ I learn every day.

 ✨ I discover new cultures.

✨ I improve my communication and my own bias.

As an expat myself, I walk the talk.

I have experienced cultural shock and I know the challenges and the feelings.

☘️ I will go to other St Patrick’s Day block parties and feel more and more comfortable because that’s how I want to experience life.

Out of my comfort zone and open to others.
